about

Marmalade was formed in 1991 in Denton, Texas. The band featured Kim Vance on lead vocals, Michael Hill on guitar, Steve Hill on drums, Kelly Fox and Bob Roe on bass, and Charlie Stephenson on keyboards. They put out two cassette-only releases, "Promise You the Moon" (1992) and "In So Many Words” (1993) and performed in and around Denton, Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. They were also featured on a pair of local compilation CDs, KDGE's "Tales from the Edge, Vol. 7" (1993) and "Denton Discoveries" (1993).

"Field Guide to the Night Sky" collects 15 recordings, including all of "Promise You the Moon" and "In So Many Words," plus a bonus demo version of the song "Ordinary Ghost," which they documented on a four-track cassette recorder at Kelly Fox's house sometime in 1991. It also reflects the fact that they inadvertently borrowed their name from another band that was active in the UK in the '60s and ‘70s, hence "A Band Called Marmalade." The band has decided to donate all sales from any downloads to the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), an organization that supports live music venues affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
